This project helps education stakeholders to build their skills and confidence to document their work and to collaborate with others to reflect on, document and share inclusive education experiences.
It builds on EENET’s experience with similar work over the last two decades.
Focus on the Arab region
EENET’s Arabic Language Community has been steadily growing over the last few years but it faces ongoing challenges with sourcing inclusive education materials in Arabic. We really want to share much more content written in Arabic for the Arab region, not just Arabic translations of materials originally written in English from other parts of the world.
Our writer mentoring project is therefore starting by supporting a small group of education professionals from different countries in the Arab region.
The process
Selection: It is vital that participants have a genuine interest in developing their action research and writing skills, and can commit to participating in the full six-month process. Using a brief project description, people are invited to complete an application form. Participants are selected to ensure diverse representation and geographical spread from across the region.
E-workshops: Participants attend two short e-workshops via Zoom to discuss and learn more about inclusive education, action research, critical thinking, communication skills, and practical tips for writing short, accessible articles. These are facilitated by EENET’s Arabic Language Community Facilitator.
Action research: Participants carry out small action research activities, investigating inclusive education experiences in their context. The ALC Facilitator supports and mentors them via WhatsApp and Zoom, and the participants can support each other too.
Writing: Participants write up their action research process and the inclusive education experiences they have investigated, again with ongoing peer and facilitator support to prepare and revise several drafts.
Publishing: The finished articles will be published in Arabic in a special publication. Keep an eye out for this in 2023!
Future steps
We would like to run an ALC writer mentoring project every year, so we continue to support a growing cadre of investigators and writers with generating Arabic language documents on inclusive education. And we want to be able to offer the same opportunity regularly for budding authors in other regions.
This all depends on funding, of course. If you might be interested in supporting EENET’s work, we’d love to hear from you!
